Screen time and your skin

Screen time and your skin

Screen times, phones, and computers, ZOOM calls: what are they doing to the skin around your eyes?

Screen time induces a stress like situation to the skin around your eyes, but how does it do this? Blue light emitted from screens increases circulation to the area around your eyes but the blood isn't circulating in a normal way, because the eyes are straining the unnatural light is congesting this increased circulation, causing the veins under your eyes to engorge and look bigger and darker.

Many people don't realize this but when the veins under your eyes are engorged you begin to have the appearance of under eye circles and tired looking skin.

Excessive blue light from screens is extremely unnatural, not only does it create dark circles, blue light makes us squint more and it contributes to dark spots, other wise known as sun spots. Combat the added screen time by adding blue light blocking glasses, a vitamin c eye cream and a zinc based sunscreen to your daily routine.

Blue light blocking glasses not only stop you from squinting as frequently, but they protect the skin around your eyes. You wouldn't be out in direct sunlight without some sort of UVA/UVB protection for eyes, and sunscreen on your skin. We're in a day and age where we have to protect ourselves from the artificial light as well. It is better to be proactive as opposed to spending money on creams claiming to reduce dark circles when in reality they cannot because these dark circles are happening below the skin.

Other tips to aid tired skin, get a solid 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night and reduce the ZOOM calls - take it as a call or get back to meeting in person!
